The Jeep Gladiator is really crying out for a torquier engine like the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel available in the Wrangler, which produces 450Nm at a more relaxed 2000rpm. So does it really 'eat utes for breakfast'? Tradies won’t flock to it either, with its pallet-unfriendly tray and restricted payload. For precious cargo, inside are deep storage bins (some lockable) in the centre console and under the seat. It’s an all-new model from Jeep, the brand that once built utes almost thirty years ago and decided to have a crack at building utes again. The Gladiator will go where few, if any utes, will go — especially without having to add aftermarket gear. The front cabin design is very upright and pretty retro looking. But it’s a minor gripe, and braking feels good from the larger diameter brakes. Attached to the infotainment system is a standard eight-speaker or more powerful Alpine nine-speaker system with a 552w subwoofer. I have to be honest - I was pleasantly surprised by the Jeep Gladiator. And space in the back row is very good.
